CPD Move Well Move Often

We had the opportunity of having Catherine Knight from the PDST give us a workshop in February on Move Well Move Often. We were fortunate to work with Catherine previously as we were one of the schools in the pilot program so it was great to get a refresher course with the finished product. The teachers all enjoyed the activities and the fun games that were part of the workshop.

PE timetable

All classes in our school are taught five out of the six strands of the PE curriculum each year. This includes athletics, Games, Dance, Gymnastics and Outdoor and Adventure. P.E is allocated 1 hour per week of overall teaching and the timetable allows for discretionary and extra SEN time where needed.

Teachers use  the primary school PE curriculum as well as the PSSI and IPPEA plans to plan their lessons.

October 2018

We had a yoga day as part of our mindfulness week in October. A trained yoga teacher came in to teach yoga to all our classes. This was in an effort to promote yoga, relaxation, physical literacy and overall well being. The teachers took this knowledge into their own classrooms too.

Tennis coaching
Children are covering Tennis as part of the games strand. We were fortunate to have our coach visit our school as part of the Schools Tennis Initiative programme and we gained so much we continued with the support of an
experienced coach from our local club.

PE storeroom

The Active school committee have been very busy organising, labelling and tidying the PE storeroom. Some old equipment was thrown out and new cones, elastics and hula hoops were ordered. Four children from the committee will check the storeroom each month and ensure balls are blown up and teachers are behaving themselves and keeping the storeroom tidy.
